I thought the way JONES was
written looked familiar... |

Don Jone's orange 54L was always a strong running car.
I only had an opportunity to see it run on its infrequent visits to Vineland Speedway.
Usually early in the season before Old Bridge and the other northern tracks got into their
regular racing schedule. The car appeared at Vineland once in 1959 with Jim Delaney
driving it on that visit. Norm Kidd brought it back once in 1960. I recall it as having a
Lincoln motor at the time. Real nice picture. Thanks, Russ Dodge |

Norman Kidd also drove the XL-1 for a short time. Mr.
Dodge should be able to verify that. |

I was in high school and went to
Old Bridge and Wall just about every week. I used to go with Walt
Jennings and his #52 modified. I remember the 54L driven by Norman Kidd very
well although it didn't race every week. Also I remember a Saturday
night at Wall when He did drive the XL1 it didn't turn out very good as the
car exited the track very quickly it hit that huge post that was at the end
of the fence Don was not a happy car owner that night. Also at Old
Bridge I remember him Norman driving a car #707 I think it was a white 37
sedan also Lincoln powered. |
