Comments: | We should finish the photo group on Dutch Mauk/Sonny Dornberger race cars with the third car, a sportsman driven by Bob Becker. The basic car was the same cream/yellow only the # 666 had blue fenders instead of the red trim on the # 999. This Walter Chernokal photo was taken at Alcyon Speedway in 1956 (Photo and comment provided by Russ Dodge) |

04/21/03 | Tom Bilger | I have never met Russ Dodge personally, but I hope that if I get back to N.J. to personally shake his hand for the "Great" pictures of the Sonny Dornberger / Dutch Mauk era. Not only me,but also some old friends that I have introduced to the 3 widespicturevault website owe Russ a heart felt "Thanks" for sharing his treasures with us. I wanted to do this publicly thru the website. |
04/21/03 | 3-Wide | I would also like to thank Russ for all of his help with his contributions of pictures and knowledge to the Vault. I would also like to thank Walt Chernokal and all the other photographers who we are very grateful for their vision to capture these great cars and drivers on film so that we can always remember when.... |
05/04/03 | Jim Murrow | Great pic. as usual, Russ - Thanks! Just a note about Bobby Becker.
After this car, he drove John Stuebing's (Pardon the probable misspelling), # 210
Sportsman at Alcyon for a few years, then the Clarence Maull owned # 11 Sportsman,
fielded by Tom Raymer, at Alcyon and Flemington as a teamate to Bill Wark in the 10-A. As of last year, Bobby was doing well, and working as a truck driver |
