| Comments: | Comment provided by Russ: Bob Williams is pictured taking the checkered in the consi at Alcyon Speedway on September 19, 1958. I, like Jim, was always impressed with Bob and the blue and white 711. From the vantage point of our viewing location ( the bed of a '49 Chevy pick-up truck backed against the fence in the dog leg ) the "throaty" sound of the car as Bob worked the throttle, could be distinguished from the field. | 05/31/03 | REGLIB | Gee. Russ compared to me you were a "Big Spender" many nights I rode into the infield with the "Popcorn Special" and Bill Lewis would tell them that I worked in the infield popcorn stand and they let me in free. Bare in mind now that was not a total lie, I did help Mrs Lewis set up and during intermissions. I also remember the #711 and how it had that distinct sound. |
