Comments: | Comment from Jim: The day this picture was taken Otto Harwi was the driver of this car. I did see another picture of this same car on this site from 1958 and Al Tasnady was driving it. Back in this era a lot of owners would let different driver's run their cars for one reason or another. If you look close at the roof above the windshield you can make out part of "The Easton Express". Sadly, Otto Harwi would later lose his life in 1964 in a crash at Middletown NY, also known as Orange County Speedway. |

02.11.12 | Russ Dodge | This is a Bob Sweeten photo taken at Alcyon Speedway in
Pitman, NJ Sept.5, 1958. Al Tasnady won one of the two 25 lap features that
night, driving the borrowed car. Charlie Whitehead was the regular driver
but would give up the ride if a quality driver needed a ride that night. The
car was a real looker I thought and ran well. A quick story. I was under the grandstand at Flemington one night looking at the cars on display. A young man with a camera was taking pictures. We started talking and he asked if I ever saw the ARCO Auto body 67 run. I responded "you mean the maroon and white number 67 driven by Charlie Whitehead?" He looked at me surprised and said that 's my dad. I told him how I saw his dad, Al Tasnady, Otto Harwi and Bill Wark run the car. I asked him if he had any photos of the car. He responded I only have one. If you would like to copy it I'll mail it to you. We lost all our other photos in a fire. A few days later I received the photo, An original, in the mail. I was overwhelmed how he trusted me to send his only original for me to copy! Needless to say I returned it quickly and supplied him with the several photos I had of the car. |
