That looks like the car that Frank came to Middletown in 1954 with the Mercury overhead engine and won. The sound was strange at that time.  That was the start of the end of the Flatheads.

Correct name of driver of the 97B is Jack Choquette of West Palm Beach, Fla.  The year is 1954, the year Jack won the NASCAR National Modified championship. Tommie Elliott drove the companion 97A car and many thought he'd win the title but Choquette was a tough driver and defeated Elliott. The teams was based in Caldwell, NJ during the racing season. Cars and engines were built in Florida and brought north in the spring.
