provided by Herb Hoskins: This is my fathers car which he ran at White Lake
Speedway in Whte Lake NY, Grahamsville Speedway in Grahamsville NY (which is now a
baseball field but if you look up the hill behind the third base line you can still see
some of the old bleachers the announcers booth and some of the old light and PA fixtures.)
My father also ran a few times at Victory Speedway (a.k.a Orange County Speedway)
in Middletown NY. He and a friend of his decided to take a road trip one week end
and towed their cars down to Flemington. The car was a 41 Chevy that he bought at the junk yard for $50. He rebuilt the 6 cylinder engine, cut out the fenders, built the roll bars, locked the rear end and put a beer keg in the trunk for a fuel tank, The drivers set was out of a B-17 bomber. The body of the car was painted International Harvester Red and the roof was painted white. My father was a tail gunner on a B-17 during the war so that's where the wing (on the door) came from. (My mother, Joan Hoskins, came up with the number.) |
