Comments: | This
one was in pretty tough shape, but we tried to smooth things out a little with PhotoShop.
The info provided with the photo said that it was Wall Stadium, but with the sign
on the guardrail with "Newark" in it, I'm wondering if this could have been at
Roosevelt Stadium??? The #70 was owned by Harry Fulmer (Father of the person who provided the photograph.) |

01/03/06 | Ed Duncan | The track could be either Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City or Ruppert Stadium in Newark. Great pic |
01/07/06 | J Lindmar | Location? Ruppert Stadium. I have photos of my dads #69 there in 1948. I sat in the grandstands with my mom. Bill Kohler drove for my dad. |
02/20/07 | George Pavlisko | Got a picture like this with the same sign. My dad had the Black #15 with Johnny Rocco and Johnny Zeke as the drivers. |
03/25/07 | Kathleen Read | The # 36 is Robert Read. |
07/20/07 | Jim Murrow | I thought maybe this was someplace called "Checkerboard Speedway" and they were teaching the #70 car a lesson for an illegal paintjob! - Jim Murrow |
12/02/07 | Bud Fischer | Kathleen have you any other photos of Bob? bud@interspan.com Bob Read was my very first hero along with Pappy Hough and Wally Campbell. I was not yet in kindergarten at the time. Im thinking this photo was taken at Ruppert Stadium. |
05.18.09 | Bud Fischer | Thanks so much, Kathleen, for getting back to me. The
additional photos of your dad are a real treasure. No way was this shot taken at Wall Stadium - this is Ruppert or Roosevelt. Damn - I might have been there! |
