Comments: | Comment from Russ: This Walter Chernokal photo shows Al Tasnady, pointing to the flat tire that cost him the feature, at Alcyon Speedway on July 9, 1954. Al was driving the Lucky Jordan "Deuce" that year. Lucky stuck with South Jersey's "Big Three" (Jackie, Budd and Al) most of the 50's, but gave Will Cagle his first Northern ride in mid-1959. No wonder Al switched to black Banlon shirts! |

04/07/08 | Ned | I was only 4 months old when this photograph was taken. Six
years later and Tas would become one of my all-time favorite drivers. This
picture speaks of a time when racing was fun. Look at Tas, he has a grin
after losing. He knew he'd be back next week. I was fortunate to catch the
tail end of these times. 1960-1964. After that money was fast becoming too
big a part of racing. Those cars with the fenders still intact were so exciting. Bright colors, the smell of alcohol and tires, it was like a magic place to escape from the world. It seems there is nowhere to escape to anymore. The world has closed in on those special places we used to visit and enjoy. Anyone for Tennis? Ned |
04.21.15 | Anthony Fichera | July 4 1954 race was won by Jackie McLaughlin in the Mudduck. Al Tas was driving the lucky Jordan deuce ford. |
