Here's a very early photo of Wally Campbell behind the wheel of the
#29 Stock Car. Wally would later go on to run for Wally Marks in the
#1 out of Trenton, NJ, and would become the 1951 Nascar Modified Champion.
He would eventually move on to open wheel racing and would also find the
winners circle there as well. Sadly, like many of the great driver's
of that time, Wally lost his life in a Sprint car accident in 1954 ending a
brief, but spectacular career. Wally is buried in Allentown, NJ in a small cemetery just to the north of town, where Hamilton St turns into Broad St. The grave has no mention of his greatness, or of the 1000's he thrilled with his daredevil driving style... But for those who have taken the time to read about Wally, its hard to stand there and not feel moved. 11.02.09 | Jeff Hardifer | This is Wally's first stock car. It was one of three #29's that Wally would drive before moving into Wally Mark's #1 in May 1948. |
