03/08/03 | Greg | 1st version of the car door was cut out big and flat rear fenders. This is
the same car that is on the first page of the 60s picture. This was before a crash and the
front part of the frame was fabricated . The car has a twin axle torsion bar front end and
a 427 ford . They would run the motor in the late model sportsman on the big tracks then
put it in the modified. This car was built in 65 and ran its 1st race in the Garden State
Classic as a gray primered 11 with Jim driving. Lucas Landscaping was their 1968 sponsor
for Daytona Jim drove the late model that year in February. The sponsor would go on the
modified for the first couple races. Looking at the picture again the car hauler does not have any boxes under bed. It was taken in 67 - (The boxes were added in the winter if 67 68 before Daytona). Lucas may have came on in the fall before Daytona. .I have a clipping dated October 6th saying they would be running Langhorne. Greg |
