Comments: | Comment by Jim Brewer: This is of Leroy Felty at the Reading Fair in 1966. This car was sponsored by Hackenberg Chevrolet which was Leroy's usual sponsor for his "Bug" on the Wil-Sel circuit in Central PA. The car was originally built for the 1964 Langhorne National Open and I saw it run on the asphalt at the Horne in 1965 (first year for pavement). Leroy drove it to a 6th place feature finish at Reading on Sept 9, 1966. Back in the mid-60's Leroy was an infrequent visitor to Reading. They generally towed the "Heavy" down from Jonestown, PA to run the bugs out prior to Langhorne. (Jim Brewer) |

05/16/03 | 3-Wide | Was Leroy a brother to "Electrafying Elvin" Felty? |
05/16/03 | Russ Dodge | Leroy Felty was "the man" at Port Royal Speedway and later ran URC. He is not a brother to Elvin but a cousin I believe. As good and well known as Leroy was when he raced, I'm sure there are people out there who can help me out with accurate info.! Thanks, Russ Dodge |
05/20/03 | Harry Mccaughey | I believe Leroy is Elvin's uncle. I watched Leroy race many times at the Grove. I remember the 65 Chevelle he raced I think only one week before it was totaled. I remember Elvin running a mini stock at Hershey and later did some lettering on a mini modified for him. A red white and blue Gremlin style body number 46. Elvin raced at Silver Spring in a sportsman also.--- |
