Comments: Looking for some help with this photo as I'm not sure of the photographer and not sure of the location.  The structure in the background looks like something you would see in Nazareth, but I'm not when the 1/2 mile dirt track opened.

05/23/03 Tom Berry jr. What a great driver and Champion! Unfortunately Otto lost his life in this car at Middletown, NY. in 1964.
05/25/03 Jim Murrow I'm not sure where this is. It looks like it might be the pits at Nazareth. In those days, the pits were to the right of the speedway, off the second turn.

Also at that time, by the way, you walked through the Farmers Market to get to the grandstands. The main grandstand was attached to the Farmer's Market building. The infield was open, and starter, Tex Enright, in his fringed, brightly colored Indian suits, (Made by "Rodeo Ben" in Philly, who made suits for a lot of the top cowboys and country western stars), would throw the green flag to start the races from the inside of the track, and run, (like hell), accross the track to the outside, in front of the charging field of cars, waiving the flag. A couple of times he didn't run fast enough, and was hit.

06/06/03 Steve Fegley. Awsome pic guys my mom loves this one. Though I wasn’t born till 1966, I never got to see this man race. He was my dads favorite driver, and the stories I’ve heard about this car and this man, make it seem that this man was larger then life, that he was to my dad in 50’s what Brightbill and Pauch and Chamberlain and Ploski are to us now. I’ve seen lots pics my dad had of the car, I’ve never seen the man. ty guys for finally putting a face to the stories I’ve heard. My dad passed in 1994 but he always said that if this man hadn’t lost his life in 64 this car and this man would have rewrote the record books by 74. Funny how things go - dad liked Otto, my mom liked Jackie M, so they had fun teasing each other in them yrs. Sadly they both lost their favorites. Later though me and my mom turned into huge Brightbill fans an my dad, well he liked Toby Tobias. So the teasing started all over again. Sadly, my dad lost his fav again. But I always knew to watch someone growin up my dad would tell me they be great someday. After all, look at the ones he picked. Thanks again, Steve Fegley.
10/11/03 Dan Mead Jr Hello All, My name is Dan Mead Jr.  I was looking around the site, and came upon this pic of Otto.  I was born 7/25/63.  My Dad Dan Sr. was at the Middletown race when Otto was killed.  In fact he was one of the first to reach Mr.Harwi when the car stopped.  Me and pops talk alot of the good ol' days, and Otto was mentioned frequently.  Dad used to run Orange County during the early 60's with a 37' Ford Flatback Sedan #87 then #M87.  If anyone has a pic of the old car around or knows where to get a pic of it, I would be eternally greatful.  Folks used to call my pops Sharkey, if this rings any bells.  Thanks ahead for any help, and I'm glad to be able to look back at the good ol' days.  Thanks again. Dan Mead Jr.
11/06/03 Sherrie Dornberger My name is Sherrie Dornberger. My dad owned the original 999 that Otto won the championships at Nazareth with. The car was owned by John Cramer. Sonny Dornberger built the car and engines for it. This photo is from Nazareths 1/2 mile Speedway.
12/09/06 TLMPG I would like to build a model of the 999 car. Does anyone know the color of the car? I am guessing white or light yellow with red fenders and lettering, but am not sure.
03.23.10 Richard Coleman I agree that this photo looks like it was taken facing the second turn at Nazareth in the early 60s. I think the structure in the background is the storage silo complex at the Lone Star cement plant just west of the speedway. Dad worked with Otto at Treadwell Engineering in Easton in those days and said Otto had no nerves at all about what he was doing driving.

Apparently he had been UDT, forerunners of Navy Seals, during WWII. This photo was from after he had won 5 championships at Nazareth in the late 50s for Harold Cope. In those days Harold's cars had permanent number 1 because of that string.
