Comments: | Comment from John Fahey: I purchased this postcard from the Al and Jean Otto Novelty Stand at the Flemington Speedway in the early 60's. It shows the novice division on the homestretch. I remember #98 as Frank Shepherd and #16 as Joe Csolak. The man on the starter's stand is Steve Levitts, who for many years operated the track lights. Notice the roof of the grandstand before the announcer's booth, as the action was called by Nat Kleinfield in the Pagoda inside the homestretch. Also this was taken before the 4th turn bleachers were built. The packed grandstand sure brings back a lot of memories of the "glory days" of Flemington. John Fahey |

07/05/03 | Kevin B. | To some of us this could be a postcard from racing heaven! |
07/31/03 | Steve K. | This is neat! I have this same post card at
home in a little frame hanging on my "racing room" wall. |
02/06/04 | Phil Betza | The car outside of 26 was probably # 10 Wayne Covert from Neshanic. |
05/25/05 | John Scott | THIS POSTCARD WAS SENT OUT TO ALL THE OLD DRIVERS ON THE FIRST OLD TIMER NIGHT. THOSE GUYS PICKED UP RIGHT WHERE THEY LEFT OFF. THEY WERE FLYING CHARLIE CREAGER AND HAROLD SCOTT PUT ON THE SHOW SIDEWAYS TOGETHER IN THE TURNS LAP AFTER LAP , WITH CHARLIE WINNING THE EVENT. I STILL HAVE THE POSTCARD SENT TO MY DAD. |
06/17/07 | Sharon (Csolak) LaPage | The best time frame I can come up with for this picture, by comparing the #16 of Joe Csolak with the other pictures I have of him in my scrapbook, is that this picture was taken in 1965 between May and September. |
04/12/08 | Frank Beifus | That's so wild, When i first saw this picture (before reading the information underneath) I remember buying the very same post card at Ringos train ride on my 3rd grade class trip in 68 or 69 |
08.21.10 | Mark Tryer | The white #26 in the post card is driven
by Frank Tryer (my father), owner and builder of this car. It's a 1937 Ford
Opera Coupe, rare. The car was later updated with larger tires and the
number color was changed from orange to deep red. When Bill Singer announced or referenced the car, he always referred to it as "Frank Tryer's White 26." It was sold to some one who owned a Sunoco station I believe on liberty street in Trenton New jersey. The cars colors were change to Sunoco blue and yellow. If my memory serves me correctly , It was wrecked the in the first season they owned it. I was maybe 9 or 10 years old. Please respond if you receive this or have any questions best regards - Mark Tryer |
01.05.12 | Buck Covert | The yellow car on the outside is not Wayne Covert. His cars never had a grill like the one pictured. |
