07/07/03 | Jim Murrow | In the late 50s, near the end of the Alcyon
days, Bobby Rossell, Carl VanHorn, and Bob Pickle started running there. I remember Bob
Pickle drove the 300, Carl Van Horn drove the 71E, and also the 659, but, I can't remember
what car Bob Rossell drove. Maybe someone, (like Russ Dodge, or Ralph Richards), can help
me with that, and one other thing.... In the Speedway Memories section, Bill Skinner says..."the only single event I could fully recall from Alcyon was when a young woman driving in a Dolly Derby in 1959 flipped over the inside guard rail and landed upside down on top of a car parked in the infield in front of the main grandstand! " - I remember that, too, about 200 feet to the left of the pagoda that you can see in a couple of the other pictures in the vault. Again, I need help on this, but, I think that girl was Bob Rossell's girlfriend. Thanks, Jim Murrow |
11/11/03 | David Rockhill | Bob went to Alcyon for the first time, driving a blue #58. It was the last two races of 1958. In 1959, he started running a red #4 and continued this color and number until 1966 when he started running a blue #36 |
11/27/03 | Wayne Urffer | I think David Rockhill might be on to something here. The El Camino in the background is a '67, probably dating this photo to the Fall of '66 at the earliest. Wayne Urffer |
11/25/04 | Barry Hulse | I remember this car as a Wall Stadium
novice car driven in the late 60's or very early 70's by George Schafer. He and Sonny Rostine in the #24 sedan had a close battle for the championship won by Sonny. George finished 2nd. |
07/31/07 | John Stover | This looks like Nazareth-half- mile. Thanks - John Stover |
