Comments: | Jim Hoffman, a track champion at Wall and a weekly competitor at Old Bridge. This car is perfect. Having spent most nights at Flemington, I didn't get to see Jim run that often, but I know that he was one of the top runners at Wall for quite a while and I remember him running the big shows at Trenton too. Thanks again for the great camera work from Charlie Taylor. |

08/31/03 | Terry | This photograph dated from either 1967 or
68. In the background is Dick Barney's 14 as driven by Richie Massing. |
09/15/03 | Jim Brewer | Joe - Very interesting to note that this car is powered by a Buick. Any idea what size?? |
09/15/03 | 3-Wide | Maybe someone out there can provide the details of what's under the hood here as requested by Jim above... |
08/24/04 | Jerry | if it is a buick motor/they had a 433 ci
eng-then became 455 ci-i/d say with the year being late 60s 433 why not ask jim? |
10.24.09 | fltlnjok | The 433/455 Buicks had front mounted distributors. This, being a NAILHEAD, probably started as a 401. Also, even if it was "67 or '68, strokers were not yet prominent. Chances are anything over 401 or so was accomplished by boring. Also, seems not too many Buicks were run on dirt either. |
10.30.09 | Jack Reinhard | The nail head Buicks wouldn't
make a lot of RPM's due to the head design but were impressively lighter
than everything else. I would say that the 401 C.I. 0r 425 C.I. nail head's
were 75-100 lbs. lighter than a small block Chevy. Once the steamroller
tires came in alternate engines went by the wayside and it became a Chevy world. Cool looking engines though!!! |
