Provider's comments: This is one of the first Council Harrell cars and was driven by Don Stives.  Don was one of the few guys that could get the job done on both dirt and asphalt.  Great driver and a great gentlemen.  The purple/maroon #35's were around for many years with Jay Stong and many others picking up the driving chores.

11/30/02 (3 Wide) Had a chance to speak to Don Stives today (11/30/02), at the Turkey Derby show at Wall Stadium.  Don took the checkered flag in the Vintage race, which as it turns out will be his last time behind the wheel as he is moving to Florida and will be selling his very popular red #3 Coupe.   He told me he had built the red #3 in 1974 and reworked it for Vintage racing after it had sat in a garage for 20 years.   While achieving most success on Asphalt including a season at Wall in which he went 9 for 20 in "Modified" feature wins at Wall -WHILE DRIVING A SPORTSMAN owned by John Norcia, Don told me he actually enjoyed driving on the dirt just a little bit more than the asphalt.  Regarding the car pictured above, Don informed me that it was actually a former #00 car out of South Jersey (not a former Buzzie car), and I think he said he drove it right around 1969.
03/22/03 Mark Southcott This is Don Stives who was the 1971 Wall Modified champion with #2jr.,14. He also won the Wall 1964 Old Sportsman title in #81. He won 32 Wall Modified features from 1958-1981 which is a tie for 7th on that win list with Bill McCarthy;
04/27/03 Kevin Newman TWO GARDEN STATE CLASSICS!! A terrific driver!! One of my all time favorites.
01.27.11 Brett Werth My dad, Bill Werth worked on the 2jr. that year.I remember Don Stives hauling the #3 to East Windsor in a school bus.

I believe that the South Jersey "00" mentioned above was possibly owned by the Holmes family.  I recall it being a royal blue colored coupe.  I forgot the town they were from, might have been somewhere in Burlington county?  I cannot recall who drove it either.  They ran B'port and EWS until at least the mid 1970's, so they definitely had another car after they sold this one.
