01/10/03 | Flemfan | Bud Olsen raced for Dave Piscopo #39 in 1964. (Al Tasnady took over the ride in 1965). Budd built this "0"car and raced it at Reading and Flemington. He was the first driver that I ever saw drive his car almost completely sideways between tuurns 3 & 4 at Flemington. His front bumper was almost parallel to the inside fence. This became the fast way to get around Flemington a few years later! |
02/19/03 | Bill Hanna | I do believe this picture is at Flemington. That sure looks like the Eaton Corporation Watertower in the background that was just off Route 31 (then Rt 69) outside the speedway between turns 1 & 2. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. |
02/19/03 | 3-Wide | I'm not so sure either....It could be the water tower that was behind turn 1 at Langhorne. Also, the tires look like they are for asphalt.... Any other ideas visitors? |
02/21/03 | Russ Dodge | I would venture a guess Langhorne 1967. Your right about the tires. Also note the grandstand and ambulance on the left edge of the photo. If my recollection is working he hit the wall on what would be considered the 3rd turn. Another note of interest is the length of the exhaust pipe on the Lightning Zero. Budd used different pipes based on the power needs of the car in regards to the track he ran. Budd upgraded stock car racing. He always present a neat and clean professional image. Thanks, Russ Dodge |
05/15/03 | Jim Murrow | Just a quick comment to add to what Russ Dodge said above. Budd Olsen, and his wife, Audrey, were two of the nicest people I ever knew. They would always be there for you, and do anything they could for you. Budd is buried at Eglington Cemetery, in Clarksboro, NJ, and on his marker it says, "Champion Forever", and he is! |
11/11/03 | Steve Fegley | I think Flemfan is confused a lil bit there. My Reading home champions poster has a pic of Budd sittin next to this car and he's listed as the 1964 Reading Track Champion. I'm not sure who is mistaken... lol (I wasn't even born for 2 more yrs ...) That's a beautiful machine, as were all of his cars. |
11/16/04 | John Stover | Steve, Flemfan is correct. Budd was the 1964 Reading point champion in the Piscopo 39. He won the title by a mere 5 points over Freddy Adam. In 1965 he built the 0 car. Thank you, John Stover |
03/07/05 | Pete | I'm tryin' to build a model of this car, what color was it? |
03/07/05 | 3-Wide | Pete, I was a little young to remember this car in
person, but I can tell you that the picture that was used for this page was discolored.
The true color is probably represented best on the trunk area, or on the very front
of the hood on the photo above. (If you look at the sky, you can see what I mean how
the center of the photo is yellowed.) It's still a great picture though! I can't be sure, but I would think that it was this color: (click here) |
