02.25.10 | George Gwynn | Herby Tillman, another of the many Floridians who ventured
to the incomparable northeast modified circuit, back in the day, to seek fame and fortune. Others who ventured north included: Will Cagle, Rags Carter, Buzzie and Wayne Reutimann, Gil Hearne, Jackie Evans, Tommie Elliott, Pee Wee Griffin, Bobby Brack, Bobby Malzahn, Jack Choquette and Bobby Allison (before moving to Alabama). Sprint car racers included Bobby Allen and Steve Smith. Let me know if I've missed anyone. George Gwynn Frederick, MD |
02.26.10 | Joel Naprstek | My good friend Marty Little from south Florida informs that this car is an ex-Bobby Allison car that Tillman brought north. I seem to recall a woman (Mrs. Tillman) in the stands at Middletown with one of those small, handheld airhorns blasting it off each time Tillman's name was announced of the PA system. Funny the things that one identifies with about something. |
02.28.10 | Marty Little | George - Add to your list Gary Balough, Dick Anderson, Spud
Murphy, Nokie Mallory, Vince Pantuso, and Jeff Dufresne and on the sprint
side Richard Lupo and Joey Allen. Yes, the Sweet 16 sedan was a former Bobby Allison 312 that he ran at Vineland and other tracks during a 1960 visit to NJ. Herby was building a coupe and Bobby wanted that rather than the sedan so they traded cars and it worked out well for both. |
03.07.10 | Charlie Miller | Great photo! By the looks of those header pipes , I bet that poster didn't last very long! |
09.22.11 | Jack Walker | Great Shot !! |
