03.23.12 | Charlie Lindmar | Wow, what a surprise! The Ace of spades was a signature ride for Long Island great Al DeAngelo in the 50,s-60,s.I was unaware that anyone else ever drove it. I drew this car many years ago, and was having trouble reading the small lettering on the qtr. panel. I called Long Island historian Marty Himes for help .He said "hang on, I'll go outside and look.". He has this ACTUAL car, and others ,in his collection!! |
03.25.12 | R | Same here I only remember AL driving an ACE at OLD BRIDGE. Saw many great races there Sunday evenings. |
03.25.12 | Ed Duncan | Al DeAngelo ran that car at Flemington in the early 60s when most of the paved tracks had closed for the season. |
03.25.12 | 3-Wide | Since I was born a few months after this photo was taken, I'm relying heavily on the info that was provided with the photo. I went back and checked and it said "Charley Cregar." Hopefully if Jim SIlvius sees this, he can ask his dad how sure he is that it was Charley Cregar with the car on the day this picture was taken. |
03.25.12 | Jim S. | Sorry about that we goofed it! You guy's are good and thanks for bringing it to our attention the driver is Al DeAngelo. My Dad checked the photo album these pictures. Back in 59' he typed the names on paper then taped them on under the photo's. Because of age the name under this photo dried up and fell off so that was the reason for the mix up. I was born in 66' so I'm still learning about this era and have limited knowledge. Since it was so long ago we try to get are facts straight before we send them in but this one got by us. We apologies for any inconvenience, and thanks for the catch guy's. Jim S. |
03.25.12 | Russ Clock | The Ace of Spades that Marty Himes has in his museum last ran in 1957. It is powered by a Flathead, the one in the photo is a later car powered by a "Y" Block Ford. |
