Comments: Comment from Bob:  This is one of my most prized photos - taken @ Langhorne in 1963 by Barry Skelly.  Where the Donkey's appearance looked worn & tired, this car the Gypsy was one of my favorite all-time race cars and this pic totally defines that.  After time trials, I believe it started on the first row, dominated most of the race, but failed because of a broken king pin or spindle.  Unfortunately the 707s were fast, but not always dependable. In my eyes, this was one of the all-time perfect modifieds with the engine set back, driver in the back of the car, cut down cowl for better vision, the sound and flames of the Lincoln motor plus the full finders and untouched windows made this car really cool.  I remember Tas driving it around Flemington the night before the Langhorne race and it was just pristine.  I think it deserves a permanent place in the 60s and hope you agree.

06.30.13 3-Wide I agree Bob.  Great photo of a great car.  I know the sister to the Gypsy is still around....  Not sure how far it's progressed by I know that the Lowden's did some work on it and I think the plan was that the current owner is going to finish it up.

I attended the 1963 Langhorne race and remember Tas dominating the race.  This is a great picture of on of my favorite cars of any time frame.  Thanks for posting this wonderful picture.

Paul Deasey always fielded stout Modifieds.  From this sedan through all the rest of his cars, through the years, you could always count on the cream colored 707's running at the front of the pack.  This a great shot of a terrific racecar.

By the way.....can anyone identify the sharp red coupe up in the left, top corner of the pic??  For 1963 it looks like it was way ahead of the times and looks like a Bullock #76 that was almost 10 years away from being built.

This is the best photo of this beautiful and storied racecar that I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing this rare photo with the Vault.

Great photo of a classic modified from the "Golden Era" of modifieds.  Love that 37 Ford slant back body with the full front fenders and chrome grille.  Reportedly, that big Lincoln motor was bored and stroked to well over 500 cubic inches.  When equipped with fuel injection I can remember huge flames from the engine making those stove pipe exhaust pipes glow cherry red.

What a great photo of a great racecar. I can’t look at a clock that reads 7:07 without thinking of this  car, and the many others that followed.  Paul seemed to have a good ability, to chose talented drivers for his cars. I wouldn’t mind having a crack at that little Nash Rambler there in the back ground.

The only thing that could make this photo even more awesome is if Tas was standing next to it !! Great photo ! I do not think I got to see Tas race this car. Only heard stories & saw photos in Area Auto.
