Comment: I don't have a lot of information to go along with
this photo, but I do know that I've heard the name "Franny Steinmetz" a lot
whenever talking to folks who remember Arney's Mt Speedway. I am told
that is Franny on the right (not sure who is pictured above on the left).
I'm thinking that maybe Franny also raced at Manahawkin, and New Egypt....
Maybe Wall? Hopefully others will be able to provide more
information.... One other note: the colors and the shading of the lettering makes me think that this car was possibly lettered by Tom Backes (who lettered many of our favorites from the 60's including the Piscopo #39, George Taylor owned #93, Carberry #47, Menschner/Neary #21, etc. |

I remember Franny racing at East Windsor in the pink #6 coupe sponsored by Methvin's Junkyard in Mt. Holly. I believe the 88 was a modified and was raced and possibly flipped at Flemington. I hope this helps. |

Regarding the lettering, looking at it from a sign painters view, I don't think this was done by Mr Backes, his script was much nicer. |
12.24.18 | John Mc | I remember Franny Steinmetz from EWS. I think I remember him taking a bad flip down the front straightaway, maybe EWS guru Mark Yaple can fill in the gaps |

This photo appears to have been taken in front of Bud
Hayes garage on Rte. 537 in Eastampton. Several of Franny’s rides over the
years were built there including those owned by Bud and the MOPAR powered
#6 limited sportsman of Joe Vaughn. |
