Comments: | Great original shot of the beautiful #47 driven by Dick
Havens with the Nazareth backdrop. This car, along with the Piscopo #39, the Taylor
#93 and the silver #21 Coupe driven by Ray Neary were all lettered by the same fellow out
of Morrisville, PA and will always have that special look to them because of it. (Ray
Neary told me the fellows name, but I forgot it and will have to find out so that we can
give him credit here in the Vault.) Dick was such a smooth and steady racer who always got the most out of his equipment. |

01/04/04 | Ray Neary | That fellow that lettered all those race cars from the Morrisville, Pa. area was Tom Ackes. Tom is gone now however his great personality will always be with me. |
01/04/04 | 3-Wide | There was always something special about the cars that Tom lettered and what's so great about it is that I never realized they were done by the same guy because they all were unique in their own way, but all were very professional looking. Thanks for the information Ray. |
01/04/04 | Tammy | The name of the painter was Tom Backes. He lived in Fallsington but passed away 2 years ago. He was such an excellent painter and all his work was done freehand. |
01/04/04 | 3-Wide | If anyone has a picture of Tom, or would know where to get one, I would like to put his photo in the Vault because of his contribution to the sport and to so many of our memories. Would the Polecat #39 or Taylor #93 and the others be etched in our minds if it wasn't for the lettering? I don't know, but we'll never have to wonder because they are in our memories and I think the lettering has a lot to do with it. |
03/15/04 | Joan Steiner Kreckman | Just got into your web page. My father Reds Steiner and George Taylor Sr. owned that car. |
