Comments: | Here's a great picture that gives those of us who never made it to Harmony a chance to get a little bit of a feel for the lay of the land as Stan looks like he's getting there a little early for warm ups. |

01/28/04 | Scott Pacich | Stan's on the drag strip which was between the track and the hillside stands. The
only thing missing is the fog, but I guess it's too early in the day for that.... I thought Harmony was pretty cool. The d-shape worked really well. Mostly it was the aura of being there. It really did get foggy, the trains would rumble by and you always had the spectre of the "hookerman" hanging around. My most vivid memory of it is pulling into the parking log with my dad for a Tri-State race, and having a freaking pigeon fly in his window, past both of us and out my window. Freaked me out... |
01/29/04 | 3-Wide | I never made it to Harmony, but I did have a bird make it as far as my driver
side mirror on a 69 Camaro around 1978 that I was driving. Scared the hell out of me
and ended up with a lap full of feathers... Final Score: Mirror 1, Bird 0 Speaking of Harmony, was it a 1/2 mile, what nights did they run and what years were they in operation. (I'm trying to figure out how I never made it out there since it was only another 30 minutes or so Northwest of Flemington...) |
02/26/04 | Dominic Korzecki | Harmony was before my time but my father went there when he was a teenager. He
said the racing was great. I also remember him telling me that the track always recieved
complaints from the residents and farmers around the area about the noise and the dust. I
drove past there in August and the trees and brush are so high, the only thing you can see
from River Rd. were the speedway lights. When the whole track was visible back in the
eighties, I remember seeing the announcers booth and what looked like a fire broke out at
some time. I don't know if it happened during track operation or after it closed down.
Maybe somebody out there knows? |
02/28/04 | John Armbruster | I can only remember going to Harmony once; i remember sitting on the hillside
and looking over the dragstrip, and I remember my dad having to drive through
what seemed like a farmer's field and some woods to park. And, yes, it was
foggy. I also seem to remeber Stan driving this car at Wall Stadium's Turkey derby one year when I was really little...and I remember being excited because as we left the track, we followed that car out onto the highway on it's open trailer. That would have made it more like '69 or so for me to remember it. |
