Comments: An anecdote from driver Billy Deskovick as provided to us by Scott Pacich:

When I decided to build a late model modified I guess I was a little ahead of the curve.  There really wasn't anything in the rule book for a late model modified so the powers in charge decided that as long as the car was within the existing rules it would be OK, (except that I had to maintain the stock roof height.)  That made my car six inches higher than everyone else.

Since the track bar wasn't invented yet, I couldn't keep the car from rolling over in the turns, and I had to compensate by running in the top groove all the time.  I didn't mind this except that everyone used me for something to lean against.  So to compensate for that if you look very close at the picture you will see that the exhaust pipe comes out just under the front door post.   With this positioning and a very large exhaust pipe it would create a very loud explosion when I shut down going in the turn.  This usually startled the driver inside of me and it would give me a chance to get by before they realized what was happening.

This worked out OK for a few weeks until some of the big time drivers started complaining.   So they made another rule change and said I had to run the exhaust out the rear of the car. Because of all the controversy, and to keep the peace, I parked it and drove for other owners for the rest of the year.

It was fun for awhile, but I didn't have enough time to be re-designing my car every week.

03/24/05 Warren Urffer This is a very cool car. But look in the background, parked on the street: a Citroen!
08/25/05 Dave Deskovick The location is in front of my uncle Bill's engine shop M&D Automotive in Dover N.J. I worked for him as a kid in the late 60's. When no one was looking I used to sit in it and pretend I was running the high groove at Middletown

Roger Coss built this car.  Shop was and still is now Roger Coss Auto Body.
