04/16/05 | George Perkins | That's the 87, the 409 can be clearly seen under the hood. |
04/16/05 | Tom Berry | That might be the star7 It had either a 348 or 409 chevy engine. |
04/17/05 | BIG RON | NO WAY IS IT A 409....I WENT TO JUNKYARDS WITH BOB AND MY DAD WHEN I WAS A
LITTLE KID. THEY SCORED MOTORS FROM TRUCKS ONLY AND THEY WERE 348'S (ONE OF THE MOST
INFAMOUS SELF GRENADING MOTORS OF ALL TIME) I DON'T RECOGNIZE THE COUPE. |
04/17/05 | George Perkins | Well, it's a W engine, that's for sure. This is a 35-36 Chevy three window
coupe. There weren't very many of these produced, therefore there weren't many to be seen
at the race tracks. This car was numbered 87, it was metallic blue/green. Bob drove it at
Old Bridge in 64 I believe. This car was later driven by Joe Kelly at East Windsor a few
years later. The Star7 was one of the most beautiful modifieds ever. It too was powered by a W engine, but it was a five window coupe. A 37-38, I believe, can't remember who the driver was. Seems like it only ran for a few years. Sure would like to see a pic of that one. |
04/19/05 | Ned | If this is the #87, after Joe Kelly drove it the car was later purchased
and driven by Beader Kennedy as the #98. I think it may be the car he lost his life at Middletown, NY when the throttle stuck. |
