Comments:	Comment provided below based on info provided by Earl Krause of AARN: Popular dirt modified driver from the 1950’s and 1960’s Spud Murphy shown above. Spud raced at Flemington, East Windsor, Orange County and many other tracks in the Northeast in his signature number "77" and some will remember his #77 white coupe that Spud drove near the end of his career in the late 60’s at East Windsor in the Modified division (shown above). Spud was originally from Illinois, but lived in Florida most of his life. In the mid to late 1950’s he was one of the first of many famous drivers to head north and race at the local area speedways during the summer. After his driving career ended, Spud owned racecars through the early 1980’s in Florida. The last car that Spud owned was a late model driven by former Northern Modified pavement driver John Bush who had moved to Florida.

03.15.10	Bill Bivona	Is there anyone old enough to remember the 18 Coupe that Spud Murphy ran back at Victory Speedway Orange County Fair around 1954 55. I saw him run there it was my first race ever and I was bitten by the the bug! I would like any information on Spud along with this 18 car he drove at the Fair in 54 54 56, Thanks, Bill Bivona
