Comments: Comment from Russ:  This is one of my favorite photos of Budd. The Malimut car was Ford powered I recall. Stan Malimut owned cars as far back as the days of Alcyon Speedway in Pitman, N.J. Back then his cars carried the number 47 (reversing the number on this car) and was driven by Fred Mears. His car was always strong but didn't win much at that time. However one night during the 1958 season, again based on memory, Fred came in and won the feature. No one could touch him that particular night. I believe they fielded a bronze '37 Ford sedan #74 after this coupe. I hope that someone can add or correct if my info is off base. Thanks, Russ Dodge

03/12/06 Leon Eisenhower This is a great photo Russ and you are correct this car was powered by a ford , there was not too many fords around at that time.
08/14/06 PM I almost forgot about this one! Yes it was Ford powered, but what made it really unusual is that unlike the other Ford powered cars of the day, it was powered by a small block Ford...289 style. Ran right with the 454's!

One of the most memorable things I ever saw at Reading involved this car and Bud Olsen. It was the start of the main. Coming off 4 for the green, scrambling for good position, (as they typically did) someone got into the rear of the 74 and started it spinning. I think every one in the stands stood up in anticipation of what was about to happen. Then Olsen incredibly executed a perfect 360, never got into anyone, the green stayed on, and I think he only lost 1 spot! Does any body else remember that? It all happened so fast that it left you wondering what you just saw! WOW!
