Comments: Comment from Leon: I saw this 659 car on the trailer in your "Gettin There" section and found this faded color photo in my collection. I would guess to be late 1950s and possibly the track is Alcyon? This was one of the photos handed down from Uncle Bill Eisenhower and he may have taken this photo.  After zooming in on the car behind it looks like the # is 711.  Hope somebody can add more info on this one as I was about the age of those guys on the fence.

03/20/06 Russ Dodge It is safe to say, the track is Alcyon Speedway in Pitman, N.J.  It is safe to say it is not Parker Bohn. Alcyon closed in 1960, Carl Van Horne was driving the 659 at that time and part of the 59 season. Parker was in the car on asphalt in 1961.

The sedan has the cut of a hobby car. I wish the number could actually be confirmed. With the help of Bill Skinner's research materials, the driver could perhaps be named.  Just another neat puzzle to solve!

Thanks, Russ Dodge

04/08/06 Ralph Richards, Jr. The 7-11 is a Hobby car at Alcyon Speedway. Driver Bob Gibbons won the feature race on September 11, 1959 as seen here in the September 18, 1959 program photo by Bob Sweeten. Van Horn was in the 659 that race. I hope this helps.
