from Paul: My name is Paul Riggs. I built and owned a car that ran at
Pleasantville speedway in 1966 and 1967. I started to drive the car in the first
several outings under the guidance of "Popcorn" Bill Lewis, who owned and drove
a car at Alcyon speedway. He helped me bring on board Hal Lewis (no relation) who had
driven for many years at local tracks including Vineland speedway. He drove for two years
until my being drafted in 1968. The car had great success with many top 5 finishes, including leading the first 46 laps of the 100 lap open in 1967 before blowing a right front and hitting the wall destroying the car. We had many side by side battles with Carl Griner in the #37 and Fry's 9A. Enclosed is a track photo showing Hal Lewis at the wheel. I own the photo and it has not been published elsewhere. I purchased the photo at Pleasantville Speedway in 1967. Hal Lewis is driving the car. |
