Comments: | Comment from Russ: This is a great shot of the "Ace of Spades" driven by Al DeAngelo at Old Bridge in 1963. Painted on the side is O'Rourke's Bar & Grill, Glen Cove. That was the bar ownered by NASCAR official "Big Bob" O'Rourke. Bob was a super nice guy and the chief official when New Egypt ran NASCAR modifieds in the early 80's. Living up to his name, he carried his own golf cart to get around in the pits and infield. Thanks, Russ Dodge |

03/24/09 | George Gwynn, Jr. | hhh....the sixities!!! The true EPITOME of the original
modified. Chopped and channeled but still retaining the integrity of the original design of the car. A true masterpiece of automotive engineering.....SOOOOO lacking from our modifieds of today. I say...."bring back the true modified!" Let the racers and car fabricators CREATE new body designs on existing modified chassis. Maintain the integrity of the current state of the modified chassis but let the competitors design for themselves, the suspensions and bodies that they feel will get the job done. Let's go "Run What you Brung" everywhere modifieds are raced. Maybe....just maybe....new fans will be impressed by he variations of racecars competing and those of us who have always been "true" race fans will be revitalized by the way it used to be. Competitors who can decide for themselves, within the framework of a limited rule book (approved chassis and engine requirements) what a real "modified" racecar is. I've always wondered what the current Dodge Charger body would look like on a current modified chassis. George Gwynn, Jr. Frederick, MD |
