Comments: Comment from Russ: Again, a Bob Farlee photo, thanks to the work of Bob Burd for transfering Farlee's slides into regular photo form. This is a great shot of Gerald Chamberlain's 31 at Langhorne. Bob has this dated at 1963, I hope Jim Brewer can help us varify this information. I think by now, you may see why I cherish my Farlee photo collection so much. Just so many super photos. Thanks, Russ Dodge

10/04/07 Jim Brewer Absolutely great pic - - I checked the 1964 (not 63) Langhorne program and Gerry is listed as a guaranteed starter in Darrel Chamberlain's '37 Ford powered by a '64 Ford. Unfortunately I don't have access to a 1963 progam.
10/05/07 Bill K This is the front row for the '64 Langhorne Open. That's "Fightin' Kenny Shoemaker's" #24 on the pole, with Chamberlain's #31 alongside. Was at the 'Horne for the '63 and '64 Opens, enjoying these great pics, thanks to Bob and Bob for sharing them with us.
10/05/07 Jim Brewer There is a pic of this car in the June 2006 issue of Strapped In. The car seems very unusual for a couple of reasons - - there is EXTREME driver set back and it looks like it is center seating with steering set up on the right wheel - - in other words the steering column is angled from center (at the driver) to the right frame rail where the steering box is located. Back then they were still playing around with right and left steer on the Central PA bugs which is what Chamberlain's regular ride was. By the hood signage it appears the car had a big Ford and it looks set way back in the chassis as well. Is there any possibility that Paul Deasey had something to do with this car?? Chamberlain drove for him just a few years later.

Another interesting part of the photo is that Gerald is sitting on the grid next to eventual second place finisher Fightin' KENNY Shoemaker. Note all the NASCAR winners decals on the white car. He won six times at Fonda that year. I think that definitely dates this as 1964 since it was Shoemaker's first year in the #24.

Thanks for posting these great old pics!
10/06/07 Russ Dodge Jim, interesting points on the construction of this car. Just a thought, this was 1964, in 1963 Al Tasnady, driving the Paul Deasey "Gypsy" '37 sedan, ran strong until a broken spindle arm forced him out of the race. While the quality of the body work and finish wouldn't compare, this car may have been built, as you wonder, using the influence of Paul Deasey and his famous sedan. Thanks, Russ Dodge
10/06/07 Larry Jendras Jr. There was no Chamberlain entry in 1963 according to the 1963 Langhorne program. There was in 1964 and Bill K is correct, the front row according to a handout I have shows #24 Ken Shoemaker the top qualifier with a lap of 36.642 followed by #31 Gerald Chamberlain at 36.661. They were both guaranteed starters. The fastest lap in time trials was #8B (38 for the ROC) Bill Deskovich with a lap of 36.360, but he started 11th.
11/09/07 Ron Plummer I have picture of this car as number 49 with a hemi engine- with Boyd Arnold as the driver. chamberlains sold this car to Boyd's race team and he failed to qualify for the Langhorne race of champoins the next year -after this photo was taken
