Comments: This photo races a few questions... Who, where, when, asphalt or dirt...

I do know that it is from the Ruberti Racing Team and this car was a real neat bronze color, with bright white wheels.  It has a small block in it in this photo, but I remember this car (or one that looked an awful lot like it) having a big block and being piloted by Al Tasnady, Sammy Beavers and Dave Ruberti.  I also remember the back being a little higher on the big block version too.

I also have heard great things about the man who owned this car.  I understand that he was a machinist and was very helpful to many that were involved with racing in South Jersey during the 60's and 70's.

02.14.09 Wayne Weaver This photo could be Bobby Vaugh driving for Tony Ruberti but not sure? Our family and the Ruberti family have been good friends for many years. My brother got started racing when he purchased a coupe from Tony. I actually worked in the Ruberti Engine Machine Shop when I was going to school in the late 1970's early 80's.

I learned a lot from Tony and he was a great man to be around and had a vast knowledge of the sport. He was a very good machinist along with being an extremely competent car and engine builder.

As stated in the original post Tony had some top rate drivers in his turbine bronze coupes and coaches. Al Tasnady won his last career modified feature at Flemington aboard Tony's #97. Tony Siscone won many features in the Ruberti T-4 sedan at Pleasantville Speedway. Both of Tony's sons raced, Tony Jr. and David. Tony Jr. raced small blocks at Bridgeport and Pleasantville while Dave took over the controls of the potent #97 Modifieds.  Dave raced, Pleasantville Speedway, East Windsor, Flemington and Bridgeport.
Dave and I still keep in touch.

The last car that the Ruberti's ran was built by Jimmy Horton in the mid 1980's. Dave stopped driving in the late 1980's. They parked the car in the garage and it is still in its original form. Dave is currently working on getting the car ready for some vintage shows. Maybe in the very near future we will see the #97 Modified back at
the track?

Sadly Tony Ruberti Sr. died of a sudden heart attack on August
4, 1992.
