Comments: | I don't remember CD running East Windsor that often, but I do remember that wherever CD ran, he was very capable of winning! I know that CD has a lot of fans out there too... |

01/17/03 | Todd L | I dont remember CD in this car but I do remember him running EWS in the 80's for Willy Delisa in the 14 and I remember him in Romeo's 44jr at Flemington and Bridgeport actually launching out of the port and landing on the access road in turns 3&4. He came back from that wreck with a busted ankle and won at Flemington the next week. I also remember CD driving the 12vt at Fulton in NY. |
12/27/03 | DaveL | CD was the classic bad boy. This is the car that he is remember best by "The Perth Lumber Wagon". Being an old Fonda regular CD was the persumed opposite of Jack Jackson. Fact was CD was flat out awesome. |
12/27/03 | 3-Wide | Didn't CD run a Chevy II wagon for a while.... I seem to remember seeing pictures of it in the early 70's before he began racing at Flemington on a semi-regular basis... When David mentioned "Wagon" above, it got the brain workin' again... |
01/09/04 | Rich Scott | In the spring before Fonda etc would open in the early
70's for Friday night then run Flemington or Reading Saturday and Nazereth Sunday. Used to
stay at My wife's mothers house in East Brunswick NJ after EWS on Friday as her
cousin was part of crew. One night at EWS CD flipped it out of the track off turn 3 in a
heat after getting car back in pits and using a chain to secure the front axle went back
out and qualified in the consi and made it to the finish in the feature. Dont think anyone
would do that now??? Also he did drive a Vega wagon bodied car that I think was a Alberti frame that was originally driven by Butch Jelly at Fonda or Lebenon Valley. Know that Jelly's # was 357 |
05/10/08 | David Sprung | Also being an old Fonda regular, Clarence was indeed a "bad boy" but had tons of fans, and was definitely a "balls out" racer. We used to joke that the C.D. used to stand for crash & destroy. He was very successful in the late models before he moved up to modifieds, and they would put a pet skunk on top of the car after the races because he was such a "little stinker" which drew a lot of interest. Better not give Clarence the wheel, or you would be on your ass if he got close to you on the track, or on your ass in the pits after the race was over!! Definitely one of my all time favorites. Thanks for the memories |
