02/03/03 John Mc There were actually two of these cars that looked similar, and they were owned by Walt Garrett from the Phillipsburg/ Alpha area. If you look closely you'll see that this car was powered by a Ford engine. He was real fast at Nazareth in this car and later in a 2A Vega. He broke the track record 6 times in a 100 lapper @ Nazareth, but didn't win the race because of having to make a fuel stop. JMc
03/01/03 ricky rutt The 2a coupes were owned by walt garrett of phillipsburg. he sold them both to lew hahn (the yellow square zero) from phillipsburg. lew let me drive both of them at flemington. the one in this picture i raced as the 2a and destroyed it in the fourth turn fence at flemington in 1978 while running third. the other i raced as lew's yellow square zero and flipped it in the third turn at flemington in april of 1977 while running fourth in a rookie race. both cars had light weight sprint car steering boxes that broke causing both crashes.
03/01/03 3-Wide I hope you guys had a little better luck in turns 1 & 2!
06/09/06 Sww70 I remember seeing this car run at 5 Mile Point around 70 or 71? I think in
the Southern Tier 100. Seems it was fuel injected? and I can remember seeing
him flying down the back stretch for warm ups and it was clearly faster than
any car I had seen there! I don't remember where he finished but it seems
the officials were giving him a hard time about his fuel or something like
that. I was just a kid around 10 or 11 yrs old and had read about Carl Fuzzy
VanHorn in the Gator racing news. When this car pulled onto the track I was
witnessing one of my hereos! Can anyone elaborate further?
