| Comments: | Ralph Nader may have thought they were unsafe at any speed, but Charlie and his little Corvair really used to get around. Maybe it was the uniqueness of the car, but this little Corvair always stood out to me. I got to introduce myself to Charlie in the pits a few years ago at East Windsor Speedway and thanked him for all the years of on track excitement. |

| 06/01/03 | Brian Loutrel | This was the 1972 version of Charlie Gunther's #307 Corvair sportsman. I have 8mm movie footage of this car flipping badly between turns one and two at Flemington. Charlie was unconscious when the took him out of the car, but he was back racing next week. |
| 02/28/04 | John Armbruster | I don't remember the year, but one night, the track
broke up so bad in the first turn, my family did something we never did: we moved to the
third turn, and sat only about 5 rows up. During the next sportsman heat, Charlie
barrel rolled down the back stretch, cleared the wall, and landed literally right in front
of us in the grass between the catchfence and the grandstand. One more roll, and he
would have landed on us. We moved back to the first turn after that.- |
