Comments: This was a nice looking modified owned by Larry Marvel and driven by Phil Meisner.  Phil was always a great runner at Flemington and now Phil Jr. and Kenny are becoming quite accomplished drivers at New Egypt.  Phil was always one of my favorites and I remember that Phil was a good friend of Al Michalchuk.  I remember one time at East Windsor, Al attempted to pass Phil on the inside going into 3 and accidently pushed up into Phil resulting in Phil hitting the wall.  Al, (who was now the new leader), pulled directly into the infield, and then pulled across the track after the race was over.   His car wasn't damaged - He just thought it was the right thing to do.

05/31/03 Kevin B. Phil and I both used to work for the same car dealership during the mid 80s Phil was always cool and quiet.I remember one time looking out of the shops door only to see Phil blasting down the lot on his sons go-kart, what a funny seen. back then he gave me an ( A ) team racing jacket witch I still have, just wish it fit. Another racing co-worker at that dealership then, Tom-pop Carberry.
06/02/03 Scott Pacich Isn't this picture from Nazareth? Bob Smith's 16b is right behind Meisner, and that looks like Del Hahn's 7/7 Pink pinto in the background. And that looks like Kneisel's Speed Sport truck back there..... Yep, that's Nazareth. The staging area near turns 3 and 4 with each starting spot marked by a fence post with a number on it. I can't tell you how much time I spent there...Scott Pacich
06/30/03 TATIDE I am not sure if it was this car, but I do believe Phil won the Schaffer 100, at East Windsor in 1976(?) in a very similiar looking Marvel #17.   In what had to be one the biggest "upsets" in the early Syracuse qualifiers.
06/30/03 3-Wide Phil had a #947 out in the modified heat this past Saturday (June 28th) at NES.  It's a tough place to get around, and there are a lot of great cars and drivers, so it will be interesting to see if Phil is coming back.
07/04/03 Jeff McClune Up in the top of this picture is a very young Jimmy Horton, and yes that is the Smith #16
10/04/03 BOBBY FIORELLO ILL NEVER FORGET THE TIME LES KATONA ASKED GEORGE SMITH AND MYSELF TO HELP PHIL PUT A GREMLIN BODY ON HIS CAR SO WE COULD GET THE CAR READY TO RACE SOON.  OFF WE WENT EVERY NIGHT TO HELP AND IT GOT DONE ASAP.  THE GREAT RACING DAYS,

Zoom in on Kneisel's truck.  Below the word Sport, it looks like 2 guys are wrestling and or fighting.  It has the attention of Phil and the guy up on the tire rack.  Typical of Naz at that time!!!  Racing did not even start yet for the night and there is a fight.
