Comments: | You gotta look close, but look at Gerald's arms on this one as he's doing all he can to keep the 76 out in front of the #666! We don't realize how exciting being able to actually see the guys working the wheel was until you go to an event today and you're lucky if you can even see that there is actually somebody inside the car! I realize that for safetys sake, it just has to be that way, but for all who weren't around back then, there was a time where it really was man against man! |

09/30/03 | John Reuter | I remember sitting on the front stretch at Flemington entering the first turn, and looking directly at the back of Chamberlain's and Ploski's cars. That is how sideways they were cranked. |
10/09/03 | FCobrajet428 | I remember one of the times i went to Nazareth Gerald drove the 666 car I think he either won or finished 2nd to Gary Balough in the M1. I think I know it was in the middle 70s (75 or 76) I'm not sure. It was a 100 lap event . Does some one remember? |
03.07.23 | Carl Snyder | Hello , fcobrajet428 , I do
remember, the race was a 100 lap Schaefer 100 qualifier at Nazareth, it was
run on a Tuesday night in June or July 1976 , Gerry was in the Ritter 666
pinto , not this coach and Gary was in the brand new grant king, just built
73. Balough tried for like 30, laps but just couldn’t get past Gerry,
finally with about 5 to go, he bumped Gerry who then went high coming off
the 2nd turn and got by on the inside and went on to win it, Gerry got 2nd
. he was greeted in victory lane with a VERY load chorus of boo’s. ( I’m
sure not the 1st of the many in his career ! ) this was Gary’s 1st feature
win in this car and he then went on to win the Schaefer 100 with it in 1976,
77 and 78. Here is a picture from this race in the 1976 Schaefer 100 program . ![]() |
