Provider's comments: | Not sure who was driving the "Big Donkey", but it was definitely after Ploski, Chamberlin, and even Opperman! Could it have been Paul Fitzcharles? I'm sure one of the Vault Visitors will come through with the answer... |

04/01/03 | Paul Deasey | I believe this photo was taken some where between 1973-1974. The place was East Windsor Speedway. I am 95% sure that Paul Fitzcharles was the driver, but it also could have been Sammy Beavers or Dizzy Dean. |

Agreed Joe! And this version of the 707 was awesome, love the way the body is shaped on this car. |

I still remember when this car showed up at Reading with no driver. After the show, I was in the pits talking to one of the crewmen. I asked him twice who was going to drive it and he said each time “no comment”. We then talked for a few minutes about the Tas 707 and I asked him about the “big Lincoln” engine I heard so much about. He said it was a Ford engine and it wasn’t 500 CU as I was told in the past. He also said it was still stored in a corner in the garage. I also remember the rear bumper on that pinto. It resembled a C-channel guard rail (looked similar to the heavy truck side rails we used to manufacture at the Dana/Parish plant in Reading). Not sure if it was the same night, but I remember Toby looking at the engine and discussing something with Deasey as I stood there. |
