Here's a guy that created his own car... and had so much success
that he went into the race car building business. From what I
understand, one of the reasons that these cars handled so good was that Ray
dropped the engines way down low between the frame rails... Ray had
some great battles with many sportsman stars of the day such as Joe Hall,
Les Katona, Newt Hartman and others... Out of all the guys that I've met through racing, Ray probably has the biggest heart as he's always willing to lend a hand to those who might be having a tough time... That little smile face really tells the story of Ray Liss... One of racing's good guys and a guy that knows how to have fun in whatever he does. |

08.23.10 | Barry Miller | I always liked Ray Liss and my favorite memory of him was
from Bridgeport during the '75 season, I think .Ray was racing for the lead
with someone, I cannot remember who and he was on the inside between 1 & 2
and the cars touched and the leader got sideways. Ray backed off let the
leader straighten out and never passed him the rest of the race even though
his car was faster. That spoke volumes to me about what kind of driver he was and I became a Ray Liss fan that night. I do not think any of today's racers would do that in the same situation, Ray truly was a gentleman racer. |
