Comments: | One of my favorite photos in The Vault. (So much so, I think I might have posted it before, but I can't find it... so here it is again.) Pee Wee on the outside of Oliver Butler in the Fred Menschner #21, with Wayne Reutimann in the Paul Blair #3 on the inside. I am a little confused on the location of the shot though as based on the background I think it has to be coming off of turn 2... Let me know what you guys think. Also, check out the variety of helmet's being worn at this time. |

02.04.12 | MD | Wow, Pee-Wee’s car has no front sheet metal, and maybe no hood? The engine is just out there, sitting in the frame like a monster dragster. Makes the 72 look like the original intimidator! Also, another classic Ace Lane photo. Someone should make a movie about his life; he recorded the history of a time in auto racing that should never be forgotten. As for the year, I thought Blair built the late model bodied version of his 3 for Wayne in 1973? Perhaps these coups were shot at ESW in 1972? Maybe not… |
