Comments: Ace Lane captures "Sportsman Racing at Flemington" in this shot of 2 racers heading out of turn 2, heading for the backstretch.  Not sure who is in the #7 (please add info below if you know for sure), but that's Jim Laubach his "elbow up" in the green #13J.  True weekend warriors... guys that "thunk" it, built it... and then raced it.. (and more often than not, had to rebuild it again to race it again!)  They knew Daytona wasn't calling, but that their glory was always only a weekend away.  That's what Sportsman racing at Flemington in the 70's was all about.

02.12.12 Rick Shive I remember the night Jim led the feature at Flemington in this car, only to have something go wrong (plug wire came off?). Nice guy, did almost everything himself. On front of the scoop, that sticker is an Ingersoll-Rand decal, where he worked.  Bill Singer always announced his name as "Jim LaBow", it's "Law-bok", just like Rick (no relation).  The #7 might be Frank Stinson.
02.12.12 Mark Yaple The 7 could be either car owner Al Reich or Horace Drake who wheeled it after Al stopped driving.
