Radford told me about meeting and talking to Newman in the pits at Daytona that year. Radford said Newman showed a lot of surprise that the regular modified drivers could get around the road course so well, and asked him how he learned. Radford never liked to talk about his hauling moonshine days (wasn’t ever proud of it like a lot of others), so instead of telling Newman about the right and left turns he made on tight dirt roads in the past, he just told him he guessed he was just a natural. |
