08.16.12 | Dave Daniels | What I find interesting is the use of an oil cooler, or could it be a small radiator for water cooling? Back in the day, especially with fuel injection, a lot of mechanics opted to not run a fan as the use of Methanol also helped the engine to run cooler. I can't imagine them using or needing an oil cooler unless they were on racing gas. In looking at the front of the hood it looks like there is no radiator being used in that location. If so, it's awful tight up against the engine. Any other thoughts from someone who may know? I find this interesting. |
09.23.12 | Ricky Rutt | This is an oil cooler. the coupes and the coach all ran oil coolers in this same location. they didn't run a fan with the injectors on alcohol, but did for long races with a carburetor on gas. and yes the radiators were very close to the motor. |
