Comments: Could be the original Weld car. (See Visitor Comments below)  Pictured above is driver, designer and builder Kenny Weld and I'm not sure who the girl in the "Flemington Purple" bikini is.  One of the cars that really changed it all...

This is not the original Weld car. The number 29, with the inboard coils front and rear was the original Weld car. This car is the second generation car, and other than the Dornberger copy was one of a kind.

01.22.13 3Wide Thanks for the corrected info Scott.  Based on your description, I think this Terry Shaub photo below is of the car you were referring to.

You know we're all getting old when our comments ignore the girl, and talk about the suspension.

01.22.13 3Wide Girl?  Yea... you're right Rich.

Who can forget the days when the trophy women ran around the pits all night in bikinis and heels, and leisure suits were the fashion for awards ceremonies?  We all had hair down to our shoulders (men and women) and platform shoes.

And the cars had personalities instead of being cookie cutter replicas.

Great pic of the period in time and a designer who was ahead of his time.

The girl in the purple bikini is Patricia (Patti) Heebner.

One of her relatives (possibly a brother or cousin) raced in the Limited Sportsman class at Flemington in the early to mid 1970’s.
