Comments: | Comment: Not sure where to begin... The rake of the body, the smallness of the original window openings, the big 'ol steering wheel... and the big ol' injectors poking through the hood... It all adds up to "cool." This sedan, built around the 1970/1971 time when square tubing looked like the way to go definitely had the right look but if you talk to driver Ray Neary and car owner Fred Menschner, it just never got around as good as the coupe that they teamed up with for the 1970 season. So while it may not be remembered for it's on track performance, it will always have a place here in The Vault and will still pin the cool meter! |

Joe, You are correct. We built this car in the Fulton
street, Trenton NJ garage and used square tubing, much easier to weld
together. The same time we were building this car Roy Shillings was building
a sportsman car in the same garage in the next bay. Roy was a great help to
Ray and myself on most of our race cars. We changed back and forth between
carburetor and fuel injection trying to get the traction we needed, never
did work out the way we wanted it. The reason for the big steering wheel was
this car had no power steering. Of course a Tom Backes lettering job. |
