I always rooted for Wilbur.  Finally got to meet him about 10 years ago to let him know that in person.  I never got caught up in championships and win streaks….  To me, it was a sport of average guys doing what in my eyes were "above average things"  that was always the appeal.  Taking a frame out of a junkyard… an engine from one car… a body from another…. Racing it… wrecking it… rebuilding it….  Racing it again.

The guys like Wilbur.... that were there week after week, to qualify… or maybe get a top 10..  or maybe if the conditions were right, a top 5, or a win….  Those are the guys I rooted for, and those are the guys that I went back week after week, just to see if they'd have a good night....  And when they did, it made me feel good... and when they didn't, well... I was there the the next week to see them have a good night.
