Comments: Here's Sammy in one of those cars that came up in our "Weld Built" Trivia contest a few months back....  Can't remember if you guys agreed that this was a real Weld car or a clone.  If it is a real Weld car, does anyone know if it was campaigned under a different color and #?

08/01/04 Ned Stites III I think that #33 Weld Car (Sammy Beavers) was an actual Weld  car.   It may have been a former Statewide Hi-Way Safety car.
08/02/04 Bob Becker I think it's one of the old Statewide Weld cars that Jimmy Horton drove. Then Jimmy's dad wound up with the car. I'm not sure if both of the #3 are Welds, or if one was a copy. One of them could have been the #19 Weld Statewide car that Brightbill drove.
08/02/04 Jeff Great picture of Sam in George Thodes number 33.  I remember they used to call it the Ghetto Jet.
08/03/04 Barry Miller I think that i can help out with this picture.  This was a former Statewide #3.   I can tell by the way the rear window was cut.  I know that this car was always known as Thodes #33.  I do not remember the first name of the owner, it might have been George?

I always liked Sammy Beavers and his hard-charging style, this was his ride before he went to The Norcia #81.  I do not know if he ever won in this car or not, but he went fast in it.  Keep up the good work and keep those old pictures coming. -Your Friend in Morocco, Barry Miller

08/03/04 Jeff (I think Sammy) was done driving for Norcia Bro's when he was in this car.  He drove it for George Thodes, usually at tracks that Horton Sr. did not race at, as Sam drove for both gentleman during the same time frame.
12/06/04 Steven Fegley I know Jimmy Horton drove this car.  I saw him win a feature in it at Bridgeport,.  I also think Billy O drove it few times.  Man u Flemington guys are good.  I thought this was the car that ended up the Dornberger #99.
02/05/06 Matt Bahre If this car came from the Statewide Shop it was never driven by Horton and might never have been a # 3. This looks to be one of the six original cars Weld built in the winter of 75/76 and the car Brightbill drove for statewide in 76.

Horton did eventually drive the original weld car (Woodstock) for Statewide and won many times with it.  I can tell the very 1st Weld car 74/75 from the six built later by the very minor changes in the front suspension and angle of the cage/roof line.

Incidentally, keep in mind that Walt Olsen bought up all Welds fabricating stuff relating to these cars and built some after Weld got out of building for other people.
