Comments: Comment From Hank:  This brutish machine is Jay Aten's flying ten.  It was a departure in number from Jay's usual #A10.  Jay lived only 5 miles from the track in Reaville.  His father was Roger Aten (a legendary mechanic and machinist at the NAPA STORE IN FLEMINGTON.)  There is no telling how many engines he machined there for local racers in the days before professional racing engine builders.   Photo taken by Hank Winecker in about 1973.

05/01/05 3-Wide What a cool looking little Falcon! opps, CORVAIR.   (When I first looked at this car, it looked to me a lot like Howie Cronce's Falcon that I didn't even notice that it was a Corvair.  I love the coupes and sedans, but seeing some of these cool looking little Falcons, Vega's, Pinto's, Chevettes and CORVAIRS   that I haven't seen since I was about 15 is pretty darn good too!

My guess on this picture is right around 1973 too as I see the back of Brenn's rookie car in the background next to the "A" or "B" owned by Barry Schenck... unless it's a year or 2 later when the Brenn #24 became the #37 driven by Jimmy Maguire....

05/01/05 John Mc I remember when Jay was building it at Profile Racing in Flemington. He worked there then, & I was a pain in the azz kid of about 12 that used to go over there and hang around looking at what was going on.
