Comments: We're not sure, but we think we see Tom Nodes in the #49 on the outside of Rudy Bottcher in the #77 in row 2....  a little further back we see the #K3 of Les Katona along side of Sug Byerly in the #31... followed by Tom Alfrey in the #7Jr.

What we are sure of is that this is the view that we thought we would always have... a packed house... a full field of cars for a heat race...  the dirt surface... Harry Dee on the flag stand and Bill doing the announcing from the crows nest.  This was the place to be every Saturday Night!

This photo looks like it was taken right around the time that they eliminated the shoulder lane that was separated from the racing surface by the a row of tires buried half way.  Drivers found that they were able to run right through what was left of the tires so eventually the inside wooden guardrail became the edge of the racing surface.

10/03/05 John Armbruster You can almost smell it.
11/12/05 Wes Suydam The car in seventh place it is the coupe is my brother Barry Suydam in the #37s.  I am sure of it.  I have looked at this picture many times.
07/23/06 Joe Crisefi Ahhh yes...... you can smell it.....and taste that Flemington Dirt! I remember many a night watching my Mom wipe the Dirt from her face and cheering on Stan the Man. We always got there real early so we could get that TOP row in the 1st turn section. That's where ALL the action was. And it was ALWAYS PACKED!! Watching them power into that 1st turn and just keep it sliding 3/4 of the way around the track.

I also remember when they started using that bottom groove, well maybe Al didn't use it too much.

Great shot!
07/23/06 3Wide When they opened up that low groove (under the tires) around the bottom, it just meant that Al had more room to himself up top!
