Comments: Comment from Tom:  Here's a picture that I took with a poloroid at Syracuse in 1972.  I believe Gerald missed the show that year.  As I recall, the show was held all on the Sunday because of rain. Gerald didn't have the gear he needed, having a 9 inch Ford rear and not a quick change was the problem.  Tom Welsh - Huntersville, NC

02/11/06 3-Wide I think it was Mark Bullock that told me that they always ran a Ford 9" on the #76's and used different tire sizes to try to accomplish the same thing as changing gears.  Maybe the big mile was too "tall" of a task for this strategy....??? (Are you out there Mark???  - We could use a first hand account on this one...)
02/11/06 Scott Pacich That would have been '73 since the Pinto wasn't built until part way through the season. I'll let Mark answer the question about making the race.

Scott.
02/24/06 Tom Welsh I stand corrected this shot was indeed 1973 and it was 1972 that Gerald missed the one day event at the first Shaefer 100 because of gearing problems.  That would have been a Coupe.  Thanks for the correction Scott.
03.25.11 Mark Bullock This would have been 1974, the year we won the Labor Day race over Johnny Botz.  We had limited success at Syracuse because we always ran our regular cars there. The less you spent, the more you made, which is why we always made money racing year in and year out. Those old Ford truck rears were bullet proof, all our stuff was simple and to the point, which was "Built to last"
